Did you mean config.log?

Eh yes. Sorry for the confusion. Please provide the config.log file.

Same with 4.5.16.
Comment 8 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2018-03-14 18:27:21 UTC
In file included from /usr/include/xfs/dmapi.h:27:0,
                 from ../test.c:15:
/usr/include/xfs/xfs.h:51:12: error: size of array ‘xfs_assert_largefile’ is too large
 extern int xfs_assert_largefile[sizeof(off_t)-8];
['sparc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc', '-O2', '-mcpu=niagara2', '-pipe', '-MD', '-I/usr/include/et', '-I/usr/local/include', '-D_SAMBA_BUILD_=4', '-DHAVE_CONFIG_H=1', '-D_GNU_SOURCE=1', '-D_XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED=1', '../test.c', '-c', '-o', 'default/test_1.o']

I suppose this is specific to sparc architecture.
Unfortunately I have no idea if this is an issue with sys-apps/dmapi (where xfs/dmapi.h comes from) or the check in samba.
Do you need dmapi support in samba?

    base/package.use.mask: Masked dmapi USE flag for net-fs/samba
Comment 10 Rolf Eike Beer archtester 2018-03-15 15:36:59 UTC
Just to sum up what debugging showed: xfs/xfs.h intentionally fails to compile if off_t is not 64 bits. To get that, you have to set _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 on 32 bit platforms. The configure process checks for that define to work, and sets it when checking for type sizes and the like. But it does not set it when checking for headers, so checking for xfs/dmapi.h fails (which includes xfs/xfs.h). When the usability of the dmapi functions is tested the include is therefore not used, so the required types are missing, and the check fails.
