Unfortunately I have no idea if this is an issue with sys-apps/dmapi (where xfs/dmapi.h comes from) or the check in samba. Do you need dmapi support in samba?

Just to sum up what debugging showed: xfs/xfs.h intentionally fails to compile if off_t is not 64 bits. To get that, you have to set _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 on 32 bit platforms. The configure process checks for that define to work, and sets it when checking for type sizes and the like. But it does not set it when checking for headers, so checking for xfs/dmapi.h fails (which includes xfs/xfs.h). When the usability of the dmapi functions is tested the include is therefore not used, so the required types are missing, and the check fails.
