Description Jure Repinc 2004-09-16 06:41:34 UTC
I just emerged Firefox 1.0 PR and the find toolbar doesn't work. The phrase I enter isn't highlighted and the page doesn't scroll to the position of the phrase. Find Next and Find Previous buttons also don't work. Highlight button does highlight phrases.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit a page
2. Pres Ctrl+F
3. type a phrase that exists in the Find: field

Actual Results:
The word you typed and exists in page doesn't highlight and the page isn't scrolled.

Expected Results:
If the word you typed is found it should be highlighted in green and the page
should scroll. If the phrase is not found there should be a warning. Find
Next/Previous buttons should work.

I'm not sure but maybe this could be related to this bug:

I see this also. In addition the find as you type feature does not work. I noticed however that the find toolbar then highlight function does work.

Bug 64196 has a solution.
Edit /usr/portage/eclass/mozilla.eclass and remove "typeaheadfind" from the line:
myext="cookie,inspector,negotiateauth,pref,transformiix,typeaheadfind,universalchardet,webservices,xmlextras,xml-rpc"
then rebuild firefox.

WARNING: this suggestion i am making *will* dump all your settings extensions etc. etc. for firefox

my proposed workaround:

delete or move the old ~/.mozilla/firefox

start firefox

edit | preferences: advanced::Accessibility; Use Find As You Type [enabled]

as i recall, that was all i had to do.
