On both my laptop and desktop I have emerged thunderbird 0.8. When I went in after it was done to check my mail the folders said there was mail in them but all I saw in the message windows was a blank white space. Im thinking its trying to use a Font I dont have but im not sure. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge mozilla-thunderbird-0.8 2. Go into it and receive some mail 3. Now try to read that mail Actual Results: The mail dosnt show but I know I have new messages. Expected Results: It should display my mail!!!!
Same problem here. I know I have a bunch of emails sitting in my inbox, but they never show up. The folders show up on the left, but no messages ever appear. Reverting back to 0.7.3 works, and my profile stayed intact. emerge info, incase anyone wants it: Portage 2.0.51_rc1 (default-linux/x86/2004.2, gcc-3.4.2, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r0, 2.6.8.1-ck7 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8.1-ck7 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ Gentoo Base System version 1.5.3 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r5 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-mtune=athlon-xp -march=athlon-xp -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -ftracer -pipe -fweb" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/share/config:/usr/kde/3.3/env:/usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-mtune=athlon-xp -march=athlon-xp -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -ftracer -pipe -fweb" DISTDIR="/mnt/ftp/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache fixpackages sandbox sfperms userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/mnt/ftp/temp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow X acl acpi alsa arts avi berkdb bonobo cdr cjk crypt cups curl dba dvd dvdr encode esd faad flac foomaticdb gd gd-external gdbm gif gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml imap imlib java jikes jpeg kde ldap libg++ libwww mad mailwrapper matroska mikmod mmx mpeg ncurses network nls nptl oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline ruby samba sdl slang spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd theora tiff transcode truetype usb vim-with-x x86 xface xml2 xmms xprint xv zlib"

I actually got it to work by moving my old profile, restarting Thunderbird so it made a new one, and copying over some of my old stuff. So basically: mv .thunderbird/default/25c95qui.slt/ .thunderbird/backup/ Restart thunderbird Then copy the necessary things from the backup folder, I copied Imapmail (Mail if you use pop3), abook.mab, training.dat, and prefs.js. Seems to be working for me now. I'm guessing this is some bug with the new global inbox feature or something. Not an elegant fix, but it works.
As described in the forum, this can be worked around by deleting compreg.dat from the profile directory. Since this seems to be hitting several of us, and appearing to lose all your email causes a bit of a panic, perhaps this should be fixed right away, or else 0.8 should be masked again.
Deleting compreg.dat does fix it. I dont think that this should be masked just because of that. Maybe we could just put a warning in the ebuild about it, or even have the ebuild search for it and delete it(though this is a lil dangerous).
who closed this? this is not a real fix but something to let us get by till there is a fix
I'm confirming removing compreg.dat does fix the problem.
I had a problem where Thunderbird was seg faulting as soon as it started up, removing compreg.dat fixed it.
I think this should be changed to resolved upstream. Its a problem with firefox/thunderbird. If someone has a mozilla bugzilla account please report this.
looks fixed
