                                               -> nvidia-settings-${PV}.tar.gz

But https://github.com/NVIDIA/nvidia-settings/archive/
delivers "404"

In his PM. Aaron Plattner proposed

     "FWIW, releases appear here first: 
            http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/nvidia-settings/ "

containing timely publications:

That was not a PM, it was a comment on a bug report that I filed and which I referenced in the See Also field of this bug report.
