Maintainer timeout. Lots of ugly bugs in BZ, but no obvious regressions over current stable... :/

Arches please do.

x86 stabilization stopped due to bug 636318. Please tell x86 how to proceed.
Comment 6 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2017-11-04 17:19:37 UTC
Given the number of open bugs, let's go for last-riting instead.
Comment 7 Stephan Hartmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2017-11-04 20:27:38 UTC
Is this now the new option to speed up gcc stabilizations? I don't think number of open bugs is an indicator for last-riting.

Can we know which bugs are real and for current versions of audacious? The reported build problem with GCC 6 is fixed.

Or the bug list is just too big for you?

Is there a Gentoo maintainer for the package?

What are the criterion for last rites? Audacious is not abandonware.
Comment 9 Michael Hofmann 2017-11-05 13:07:08 UTC
Please don't remove audacious! The project has active developer and user communities and releases new versions every few months. I really like audacious!

Nope, some of the bugs (like all the adplug nonsense) would have been caught by simple proofreading. I've half a mind to sign up as proxy-maintainer because I've been doing most of the required work in an overlay for years now.

3.9 (which came out three months ago) seems to run fine with GCC 6.4, FWIW.
Comment 11 David Turner 2017-11-05 21:18:13 UTC
I have just tried copying the v3.8.2 ebuilds across to a local portage overlay as media-sound/audacious/audacious-3.9.ebuild and media-plugins/audacious-plugins/audacious-plugins-3.9.ebuild to see if this will build v3.9 cleanly.

This currently fails to build the manifest as the <x>-gtk3.tar.bz2 tarballs are currently missing for the v3.9 releases as can be seen here:
http://distfiles.audacious-media-player.org/
Comment 12 David Turner 2017-11-05 21:22:05 UTC
I have spoken to tallica (Michał Lipski) who is one of the two lead developers of Audacious via IRC and he is going to sort out the missing -gtk3 tarballs for v3.9 along with the other lead developer, jlindgren90 (John Lindgren).

He also noted that 'adplug was removed recently from our codebase': https://github.com/audacious-media-player/audacious-plugins/commit/a39bfd76b6e346c7970f857ffcd32a5529b1a6ad

So a minor further modification to the ebuild for this will be required.
Comment 13 David Turner 2017-11-05 22:03:42 UTC
OK, the <x>-gtk3 tarballs for v3.9 are now present at:
http://distfiles.audacious-media-player.org/

I have managed to generate the manifests for my v3.9 ebuilds, copied from v3.8.2 and the result compiles and installs successfully with emerge.

The resulting v3.9 runs fine and plays MP3s as expected.

I should say that I am still running GCC-5.4.0 so someone needs to test with GCC-6, but this should be fine.

media-sound/audacious-3.9 - buildsys.mk:795: .deps: No such file or directory - bug #636690
Comment 15 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2017-11-08 20:27:16 UTC
We can close this now since it'll be only "old version removal".
