I can build firefox-55 without any problems. But when I want to start firefox, my mem usage goes up to 5GB and nothing happend. I removed every system-* flag and hwaccel, nothing different. I removed .mozilla, no solution. irefox-bin-55.0 works fine. emerge --info firefox Portage 2.3.6 (python 3.4.6-final-0, default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/plasma/systemd, gcc-7.1.0, glibc-2.24-r3, Same problem here
It works for me. Please try to reset the mozilla profile. The situation seems to be a bit more complicate and requires some analysis. We can not help you efficiently via bug tracker. The bug tracker aims rather on specific problems in .ebuilds and less on individual systems. I have had very good experience on the gentoo IRC [1] with questions like this. Of course there are also forums and mailing lists [2,3]. I hope you understand, that I will close the bug here therefore and wish you good luck on one of the mentioned channels [4]. Please reopen the ticket in order to provide an indication for an specific error in an ebuild or any gentoo related product. I delete the .mozilla and the .cache/mozilla folder. Same as before.
Works fine for me too, but in the opposite to you, I didn't use an experimental GCC which uses more aggressive optimizations. Could be the possible root cause. ;-) Here the settings I used: emerge --info firefox Portage 2.3.6 (python 2.7.13-final-0, default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop, gcc-6.3.0, glibc-2.25-r2, 4.12.4-gentoo x86_64) ================================================================= System Settings ================================================================= System uname: Linux-4.12.4-gentoo-x86_64-Intel-R-_Xeon-R-_CPU_X5650_@_2.67GHz-with-gentoo-2.4.1 KiB Swap: 16383996 total, 16207868 free Timestamp of repository gentoo: Tue, 08 Aug 2017 14:30:01 +0000 sh bash 4.4_p12 ld GNU ld (Gentoo 2.27 p1.1) 2.27 distcc 3.2rc1 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu [disabled] ccache version 3.3.4 [disabled] app-shells/bash: 4.4_p12::gentoo dev-java/java-config: 2.2.0-r3::gentoo dev-lang/perl: 5.24.2::gentoo dev-lang/python: 2.7.13::gentoo, 3.4.6::gentoo, 3.5.3::gentoo, 3.6.1-r1::gentoo dev-util/ccache: 3.3.4::gentoo dev-util/cmake: 3.9.0::gentoo dev-util/pkgconfig: 0.29.2::gentoo sys-apps/baselayout: 2.4.1::gentoo sys-apps/openrc: 0.28::gentoo sys-apps/sandbox: 2.10-r4::gentoo sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13::gentoo, 2.69-r4::gentoo sys-devel/automake: 1.11.6-r2::gentoo, 1.13.4-r1::gentoo, 1.15.1::gentoo sys-devel/binutils: 2.27-r1::gentoo, 2.28-r2::gentoo, 2.28.1::gentoo sys-devel/gcc: 4.9.3::gentoo, 5.4.0-r3::gentoo, 6.3.0::gentoo, 6.4.0::gentoo sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.8-r1::gentoo sys-devel/libtool: 2.4.6-r4::gentoo sys-devel/make: 4.2.1-r1::gentoo sys-kernel/linux-headers: 4.10::gentoo (virtual/os-headers) sys-libs/glibc: 2.25-r2::gentoo Repositories: gentoo location: /usr/portage sync-type: rsync sync-uri: rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage priority: -1000 Installed sets: @system ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" ACCEPT_LICENSE="*" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=westmere -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/lib64/libreoffice/program/sofficerc /usr/share/config /usr/share/gnupg/qualified.txt" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/dconf /etc/env.d /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/php/apache2-php7.1/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php7.1/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php7.1/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-march=westmere -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--quiet-build=n --keep-going --autounmask-write --autounmask-keep-masks --jobs --load-average=10" FCFLAGS="-O2 -pipe" FEATURES="assume-digests binpkg-logs clean-logs config-protect-if-modified distlocks ebuild-locks fixlafiles merge-sync news parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unknown-features-warn unmerge-logs unmerge-orphans userfetch userpriv usersandbox usersync webrsync-gpg xattr" FFLAGS="-O2 -pipe" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org" LANG="de_DE.utf8" LC_ALL="" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed" MAKEOPTS="-j12 -l20" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --omit-dir-times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --human-readable --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --exclude=/.git" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp"
This is an issue with GCC-7, compile firefox with gcc-6.x.x and it will start
Yes, with gcc-6.3.0 everything was fine-
