Description Jonas Stein gentoo-dev 2017-08-04 20:01:05 UTC
Texstudio bundles a picture for an easter egg which is problematic.
It is not only that it lacks attribution and we can not see the source or license of the picture, but even Wikipedia deleted this picture for some legal reason.
It is likely, that we may not distribute the picture.

https://sourceforge.net/p/texstudio/bugs/2226/

This applies to all Texstudio versions in the tree.

This is a bit nuts. Any image of any rubber duck is a copyright violation?

Well, whatever. Is it possible to just mirror a copy of the sources sans the ostensibly illegal duck and the four lines of code calling it to existence?
Comment 2 Jonas Stein gentoo-dev 2017-10-25 08:01:38 UTC
Yes, it is very annoying. For some reason the picture had to be deleted from wiki commons where it was taken from.
Of course you can fork it, or prepare a tar ball where the picture is removed or substituted. I would prefer that upstream fixes things, it is a bad solution to patch each release. You could ask upstream about the progress.
Comment 3 Jonas Stein gentoo-dev 2017-11-05 00:36:47 UTC
Even after two months no solution from upstream.
I replaced the file in question with a simple smiley in 2.12.6 and copied the clean tar.gz to dev space so that we can get a version bump now and there are no concerns about distributing the files.
Upstream has overwritten released versions silently in the past, so we will have to put the tar balls on devspace anyway.

    app-office/texstudio: Bump to 2.12.6 and xdg-utils

Version bump to 2.12.6, we use now a fixed copy of the tar ball.
Had to migrate from 'fdo-mime' to 'xdg-utils' to make repoman happy.
