Description matt mccollow 2004-08-31 12:34:52 UTC
I try to emerge glib-2.4.6 on my MacOS X 10.3.5 system and it dies, refusing to overwrite an already existing /usr/lib/charset.alias

I cant speak for anyone else, but on my system, /usr/lib/charset.alias contains only the following:

# This file contains a table of character encoding aliases,
# suitable for operating system 'darwin7.0'.
# It was automatically generated from config.charset.
# Packages using this file:

I don't see why there would be a problem in letting glib's install clobber this file.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="macos" emerge glib

Actual Results:
glib install dies because it doesn't want to overwrite /usr/lib/charset.alias

* checking 280 files for package collisions
existing file /usr/lib/charset.alias is not owned by this package
* spend 0.237250089645 seconds checking for file collisions
* This package is blocked because it wants to overwrite
* files belonging to other packages (see messages above).

Expected Results:
glib should have installed

See also bug 59283: this problem has existed since at least glib-2.4.4.
