nm-applet is only used if NetworkManager is used, too. So, in my opinion, it would make sense to follow the IUSE flags of NetworkManager in nm-applet regarding the modemmanager USE flag, in 1.4.6-r2.ebuild: IUSE="+introspection +modemmanager teamd" in 1.8.0-r1.ebuild: IUSE="+introspection gcr +modemmanager selinux teamd" Kind regards, mdb

nm-applet-1.16.0 has lost the IUSE default again. Therefore reopening, as discussed with leio on IRC. Also: <@leio> ulm: but maybe it could be a better name for the USE flag in general. <@leio> like wwan, as it's called upstream for nm-applet
