I just tested sendmail a bit under Gentoo 1.2 (gcc 2.95), and found that 
newaliases would segfault if built with -O3.  with -O2 it works.   
 
my USE flags are: 
almach root # grep ^USE /etc/make.conf 
USE="imap tcpd mozilla gnome kde tk X pda lm-sensors arts esd" 
 
but I don't really think that would make much of a difference.  I haven't 
tested this on 1.3 (gcc3*).

Seems to work with the new version of sendmail.
