Description Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2017-03-30 19:11:56 UTC
According to VirtualBox developers in #vbox, xf86-video-virtualbox is only useful for kernels older than v3.11 and has been replaced by a kernel modesetting driver + the modesetting driver which is part of xorg-server >= 1.17.

Currently xf86-video-virtualbox is pulled in by xorg-drivers[video_cards_virtualbox],

Old xservers (1.12 and 1.15) are just in the tree for unmaintained branches of the proprietary nvidia-drivers, so you're not going to be using virtualbox with those. I will remove the virtualbox USE flags from those versions, or mask them all together.

If you don't care about kernels older than v3.11, then lets give last rites to xf86-video-virtualbox.

Otherwise, please make an xorg-drivers-1.19-r1 (straight to stable) that drops the dependency on xf86-video-virtualbox (and update xorg-drivers-9999 at the same time).

This is currently the last thing blocking security bug 611350 (because I'm going to drop xorg-server-1.18 rather than backporting the patch).

While this is partially true, it is not as feature complete as the virtualbox module. Things like seamless mouse movements between the host and guest are not available in the no-driver setup.

This is holding up the cleanup of a security vulnerability. While we understand that the features might be missing. Please feel free to contact Oracle (upstream) as part of their community to enhance the base product. (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Community)

Leaving this open for the virtualbox maintainers to do with as they please. The old versions blocking bug 611350 are now out of the tree, so my problem is solved.

Package has been removed from the tree.
