Whwere is the ipp-utils equivalent hiding on Gentoo? Anyway, should be enabled by default unless you want to rip away ipp support from cups.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. ipptool is installed by cups package but there is no ippfind.
Comment 2 Andreas K. Hüttel gentoo-dev 2017-03-05 09:40:35 UTC
Do you have the zeroconf use-flag set? If not, please switch it on and check again.
Comment 3 Geoff Leach 2017-04-15 05:32:31 UTC
Setting zeroconf use-flag results in ippfind being installed for me

Guessed so, since that is what it does. :)

Hi,
sorry I but do not understand why you close this.

Regarding zeroconf, I do not see it explained in global flags nor under cups: https://www.gentoo.org/support/use-flags/

Second, I have my own cups config settings but I cannot use IPP protocol because the utility is missing. Please ensure the utility is installed for everybody.

This is not a reasonable solution at all. Obviously, people who can think for themselves, should not be forced to use “zeroconf”, should they? The correct solution would be to disable whatever wants to use ippfind. (And smash it with a figurative hammer.)

E.g. In my case, I have my printer set up. There is zero reason for it to “zeroconf” anything. To be frank: We are not mentally iDisabled. We are not brainless blobs that let “Siri” or whatever think for us, while drooling on “teh shiny” [sic]. That’s why we use Gentoo, after all.

No, that won't fix it - or not for me, anyway. Cups works fine here with gentoo-sources-4.9.95, but with 4.14.52 I get the reported error: "ippfind: no such file or directory". IMO ippfind should run and enable the user to click on the printer he wants to add instead of having to jump through all manner of arcane hoops in the ancient way.

Doesn't work, see bug 720958

It sounds like this ebuild should be IUSE="+zeroconf"? It seems reasonable to assume that most CUPS users will want to be able to discover with IPP printers on the network.
