Description Daniel E. Wilson 2004-08-19 02:09:51 UTC
When using the 2.6.8-gentoo and 2.6.8-gentoo-r1 kernel I can only burn a CD when cdrecord is running as root. When I am using the 2.6.7-gentoo-r14 kernel cdrecord works as a user or with cdrecord with suid permissions.

The permissions for the cd writer are correct and the same no matter what kernel I am booting.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot using 2.6.8-gentoo.
2. Attempt to burn cd. example: cdrecord dev=ATAPI:0,0,0 image.iso

Actual Results:
The cdrecord program reports that write mode is not supported.

Expected Results:
It should have burned the CD.

Well, it doesn't sound like your bug exactly, but -mm2 does have a CD burning related patch in.

This, to be exact:

- The monster memory leak which some people were seeing with audio CD
  writing should be fixed.

Dunno if it has anything to do with your problem, but I guess you should try -mm2.
