Same problem here...
Comment 3 Ian Moone 2017-02-04 08:01:01 UTC
There is a fix in libressl overlay: https://github.com/gentoo/libressl/commit/a13c5bb7bfa22aaaf5313fae22dd724ab072113e
Comment 4 MarcusX 2017-02-04 18:52:17 UTC
I try to avoid using overlays, unless absolutely needed..
Will the fix be ported into main portage anytime soon?
Comment 5 Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2017-02-06 09:01:31 UTC
fwiw 1.7.2 fails too with the same error
Comment 6 Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2017-02-07 15:36:15 UTC

patch works - thx.

build.log for cryptography

I am confirming that this also fails to compile on my machine.

Attached is the build.log since that file is large. Below are the emerge --info and emerge -pvq commands.

If you have any questions just let me know.

Thanks.

cryptography-1.8.1-libressl.patch

put this in /etc/portage/patches/dev-python/cryptography-1.8.1/cryptography-1.8.1-libressl.patch

portage will take it without overlay need.
Comment 10 Dirkjan Ochtman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2017-05-08 07:18:13 UTC
Did you verify this patch is still needed? libressl-2.5.1 is no longer in the tree, and cryptography upstream did recently put in changes to enable libressl compatibility. This made me think we would not need this patch anymore for 1.8.1. If you still have a use case for this, maybe you can open an issue with the cryptography project to discuss the use case? If they accept a patch I'm happy to add it back. (Please CC @djc on GitHub.)

> Did you verify this patch is still needed?

I can confirm that the patch is needed to build cryptography-1.8.1 with libressl-2.5.4.

Confirmed.
This patch is needed for building cryptography-1.8.1 with libressl-2.5.4.
