I just emerged americas-army and when I use the link in the games menu (gnome) to start it, it says 

"Details: Failed to execute child process "armyops" (Permission denied)"

when I type "armyops at a commend line it says command not found. When I "locate armyops" all it finds is portage stuff. When I su and locate it, it finds the binaries in /opt/americas-army/armyops when I try to run that file as a normal user it says permission denied. When I run that file was root it starts up normally....but I don't think I should have to run the game as root.

You have to be in the games group to run the game.  If you are not in the games group, add yourself to the games group and log out, then back in and try again.
