My placeholder bug to show that our web-handbook is a blocker on unmasking PHP 5.
I've been trying to test Squirrelmail with PHP 5 and not succeeding. Due to the multitude of USE flags with PHP 5, I haven't been able to rule out a USE flag setting yet. I see this bug as very important before going stable. I'm a very experienced Unix/Linux administrator and I'm getting lost trying to determine the flags that I need/should have set. If I'm getting lost, we can guarantee that a "normal" user will get lost as well. In your section in the handbook for Setting up PHP, I would recommend adding a section that describes in detail the USE flags for php/mod_php.
Just a note to say that we've started building documentation in our wiki: http://svn.gnqs.org/projects/gentoo-php-overlay/wiki we're still looking for a volunteer from the docs project to put something together in GuideXml tho. Best regards, Stu
The PHP manual has also a guide about howto to install PHP and Apache (http://php.net/install.unix.gentoo), but I think it is quite outdated now. Please tell me which parts need updating, so that I can modify the oficial PHP docs.
Reassigning to php-bugs@gentoo.org since it's PHP related, also take a look at the PHP Overlay wiki and the docs/ SVN folder, where we're keeping and working on our new dev-lang/php related documentation. Best regards, CHTEKK.
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/php/php4-php5-configuration.xml is online now.
