There is a newer version of hercules available. See https://hercules-390.github.io/html/

Maybe we should have an ebuild for installing

there is no 4.0 release.  that web site is talking about the 4.0 series which is bleeding edge and git-only currently.

if you see an actual release posted there, please link it.
