It builds fine here. You problem appears to be related to nsgmls.
Please show the output from 'emerge -pqv /usr/bin/nsgmls'
Comment 5 Coacher 2016-11-16 10:27:14 UTC
Please also retry without ccache.
Comment 6 Berthold Humkamp 2016-11-16 19:19:42 UTC
emerge -pqv /usr/bin/nsgmls - Which package do you mean? 'nsgmls' doesn't exist.

Without ccache the error is the same.

Should be openjade, but the command I gave you doesn't care about the package name.

> Without ccache the error is the same.
Ok.
Comment 8 Berthold Humkamp 2016-11-17 07:52:56 UTC
Ok, I've reread the output, I didn't look right before.

But rebuilding openjade wasn't the answer, the error still exists.

Can you please just show the output from 'emerge -pqv /usr/bin/{,o}nsgmls' command?
Comment 10 Coacher 2016-11-24 08:47:22 UTC
Not reproducible on a stable or unstable systems.
Reporter isn't responding for a week.
Comment 11 Berthold Humkamp 2016-12-21 23:54:22 UTC
Sorry, I wasn't online for some time. - Some stress on work.

Here the output of: emerge -pqv /usr/bin/{,o}nsgmls
[ebuild R ] app-text/opensp-1.5.2-r4 USE="doc nls -static-libs {-test}"
[ebuild R ] app-text/openjade-1.3.2-r6 USE="-static-libs"
Comment 12 Berthold Humkamp 2016-12-21 23:57:03 UTC
I've tried with stable opensp-1.5.2-r3 also.

I can see that you've managed to merge linuxdoc-tools-0.9.71-r1[doc] before.
Could you please confirm that linuxdoc-tools-0.9.71-r1[doc] still builds fine on your current system?
Comment 14 Coacher 2016-12-28 08:34:35 UTC
linuxdoc nsgmls stage for txt backend boils down to this command:

cat ${FILE} | sed 's/_/\\_/g' | /usr/bin/sgmlpre output=txt | ( nsgmls -D /usr/share/sgml -D /usr/share/linuxdoc-tools -ifmttxt ) > ${OUTPUT}

Could you please test if this command works on its own with ${FILE} being

'/var/tmp/portage/app-text/linuxdoc-tools-0.9.72/work/linuxdoc-tools-0.9.72/doc/guide.sgml'

and ${OUTPUT} being whatever location convenient to you, e.g. /dev/null.
This command only works after an unsuccessful build of linuxdoc-tools-0.9.72.

Hello, andcycle-gentoo.bugs@andcycle.idv.tw.

This bug is about the problem you've mentioned in https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=597560#c3. Please help me reproduce it.

Please attach to this bug here your `emerge --info' output and provide info requested in comment 13 and comment 14.

Thanks!

about comment 13,

there are some nasty thing about linuxdoc-tools-0.9.71-r1,
it won't build under gcc 4.9.4,

so I do
emerge --usepkg =app-text/linuxdoc-tools-0.9.71-r1

in order to use the old ver,
and build ulogd with USE=doc,

it passed,

so it's down to why linuxdoc-tools-0.9.72 won't pass doc build.

Does 0.9.72[doc] fail to build 100% of time?
What happens with ccache disabled?

sorry about not clear enough, test without ccache

USE=doc emerge =linuxdoc-tools-0.9.72
passed

USE=doc emerge =ulogd-2.0.5_p20161017
failed

mine ulogd issue needs to be taken to a separate bug report

Please file a separate bug report.
Comment 22 Coacher 2017-01-05 14:47:36 UTC
As confirmed by andcycle-gentoo.bugs and also observed by me, this problem isn't reproducible without ccache. Sadly the original reporter went AWOL once again.

Since ccache is known to cause numerous compilation failures as stated in make.conf(5) manpage, I am closing this bug with WORKSFORME. Please don't reopen, if you are using ccache and cannot provide exact instructions to reproduce the problem starting from empty ccache.

However, if you indeed can reproduce this problem with FEATURES='-ccache', please file a separate bugreport.

Other issues mentioned above should be reported to separate bugreports as was noted before.

Thanks.
