How is a >= dep forcing the use of 1.8? For example, I've been using guile-2* for years with autogen (not that I ever wanted to push it to the tree at large) and it's been fine all this time.

autogen upstream checks for & supports guile-2.  as Tim said, please elaborate as to why the current autogen ebuild dep is incorrect.
