I have created a flowchart (included as vector and png) of possible situations when upgrading a package. I'm not aware of Portage being prepared for all situations. To prepare Portage for all situations we need 3 USE-flags (i.e. libupdate, libupdaterisk, libupdateoverwrite). If more information is required please let me know. If an other format is required let me know. I really appriciate your opinion on this. Regards, John Herdy PS. I apologise for the lack of quality, I was in a hurry.

maybe its me but that PNG is completely black
I think your page didn't load completely. I have tried to open the attachment from multiple computers but had no problems. Would you please retry and confirm/decline if it works. Maybe someone else can try it also? Regards, John Herdy.
The PNG works for me.
it works for me too ... it was just the image viewer i used showed it as completely black (was paint shop pro ...) i just didnt post an additional comment since it would take up useless space ;)
Technically an enhancement, so marking it as such. Side note, any, activity?
Shouldn't those be FEATURES, not USE flags?
Slapping this one shut. explanation of ideas here is required- something more then just a flowchart. What's this address? Where is the failing of *current* portage in comparison, etc?
