Comment 2 Matthias Maier gentoo-dev 2016-07-09 17:06:39 UTC
Fascinating:

CMake Error: The following variables are used in this project, but they are set to NOTFOUND.
Please set them or make sure they are set and tested correctly in the CMake files:
  MPI_C_LIBRARIES (ADVANCED)
linked by target "mpi4py.MPE" in directory [...]
      [...]
  MPI_HEADER_PATH
used as include directory in directory [...]
     [...]

Can you (if your computational ressources admit it) try to compile with USE="mpi python"?

Alternatively, 5.1.0 should be (hopefully) in the tree soon. Can you please give USE="-mpi python" a try for the new version?

sci-visualization/paraview: add a required use constraint, bug #586934

Apparently, configuring paraview with USE="python" requires an MPI
    installation.
