Description Nick 2016-03-13 23:50:07 UTC
Connecting to certain openvpn vpns using NetworkManager in gnome (3.18) with app-crypt/libsecret-0.18.4 installed causes gnome display manager to crash and display the error page prompting user to logout.

According to the Arch forum post provided in the URL (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=207824) this could be an upstream bug. Also potentially relevant bug report: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=759708

The problem disappeared for me when I masked =app-crypt/libsecret-0.18.4 and downgraded to =app-crypt/libsecret-0.18.3.

Replication:
Create an openvpn identity (in the openvpn network manager plugin) with the following configuration settings:
 * Authentication type: Certificates (TLS)
 * User Certificate, CA Certificate, Private Key, and Private Key Password provided in fields
Under advaced settings:
 * General: Use LZO data compression checked
 * Security: Cipher: AES-128-CBC, HMAC Authentication: Default
 * TLS Authentication: Use additional TLS authentication checked, key file provided, key direction 1

Note that a different openvpn identity did not cause a crash and differed in configuration settings from the one that did result in a crash in the following ways:
 * did not "Use additional TLS authentication"
 * did not have a private key password
