uClibc-ng is a small C library for developing embedded Linux systems. uClibc-ng is a spin-off of uClibc (from Erik Andersen) from http://www.uclibc.org. The config file is compatible between uClibc-ng 1.0 and uClibc git master. This might change in the future. Main goal is to provide regulary (this seems to be the case) a stable and tested release to make embedded system developers happy. See also http://cgit.uclibc-ng.org/cgi/cgit/uclibc-ng.git Reproducible: Always
I am familiar and have been considering the switch. The fact that uclibc is not pushing out new releases has become increasingly difficult. When patches start to pile up, you get into the situation where the fix to one issue requires a cascade of earlier patches to be applied on top of the last release. However, uclibc-ng is new-ish and I wonder about the longevity of the project. If I did switch, I would probably abandon sys-libs/uclibc in favor of sys-libs/uclibc-ng and build stages based on the later. That's not something I take lightly.
