Introducing a new use flag like "xdiff" may improve download time for 56.6K modem users. The use flag should require a dependency on xdiff and change the source code download for download the previous version (thah a 56k user should have) and the new xdiff package. At unpack time, the previouse version should be bunzipped, xdiff patched and bzipped to the new package version. Then the procedure is exactly like without the "xdiff" flag. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: Downloading lots of Mb in order to compile kde. Expected Results: Downloading a few kb in order to compile kde, saving a lot of bandwidth and time... The procedure described may be done by hand, but an integration in the ebuild will improve the process and allow a wide use (saving a lot of bandwidth from the mirros....)
Err... xdelta, not xdiff
It doesn't make sense to implement this for kde only - it should be a portage enhancement request. I'm not sure, if it's worth its own bug number or if this bug report should be seen as a dupe of 1184#c14 - bug-wranglers?

Closing since xdelta use flag is now supported by kde ebuilds.
