CCing treecleaners
Although it's sad to see martian-modem drivers go as I still have a Dell Inspiron 8100 i686/Pentium3 laptop with the Intel e100 network card & ActionTek modem combo Mini-PCI card utilizing this driver for the modem, we knew the future compilation failures was inevitable with pain-in-the-butt binary only drivers. On the flip, these laptop binary-only modem drivers have always been a pain, as they would sometimes conflict with other hardware such as the relatively unused Infrared port on my old laptop. For other users with similar actively used hardware, a workaround is to purchase a USB Modem. Preferably a hardware based USB modem and not software based USB modem. And one with open source drivers, or in kernel drivers. One of the most popularly purchased and used USB hardware modems seems to be the USRobotics 56K USB Modem; Model USR5637. As small as it is, it is still a true hardware modem, while you should be aware other similar sized USB devices maybe software modems. The USR5673 uses in kernel drivers, and works fine on my i686/Pentium3 laptop.
