Description Ian Delaney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2016-02-01 17:32:00 UTC
This is a substitute for the original bug that requested this ebuild.

It is still in progress in collaboration between awilfox and Andrey Tikhomirov

The last state of the ebuild is in

No, I've just asked for the reason of introducing of unneccessary variables (such as MIN_GAMMU and COMMON_DEPEND). If this is a result of a convention then it's fine, otherwise I see no reason for overcomplicating the ebuild.

According to your and awilfox's answers, introduction of COMMON_DEPEND variables and python 3.3 removal are based on developer conventions, so it's perfectly fine.

The last version of the ebuild has the fixed dependencies and the changelog added back. I have no other comments and objections.

Concerning the maintainership,

> you have never asked to be a maintainer
> you have submitted an ebuild and we are not to know if your interest stretches only as far as having an ebuild accepted or not

In general I'm interested in having the latest versions in the portage tree (or in my personal overlay if an ebuild is not accepted for some reason). However I may not have a time for continiously monitoring new versions and updating ebuilds.

There is also 'wammu' in addition to 'gammu' and 'python-gammu', which should be maintained too, but I'm currently using only console-based Linux systems (no GUI).

Very well. In dealing with bugs of this type, it's often that the submission of an ebuild is a first step to proxy maintaining it. In the flow of the initial bug, we noted that your submission deserved ack and we have ensured you have had your inquires answered. That is all. Given you made a legitimate and viable contribution, we insisted on respecting your effort. We were allowing for the possibility you wished to join and be a co-maintainer however it is clear this is not the case.

The package will likely be designated to a maintainer who will be proxied.

Thanks for your contribution. We note the existence of 'wammu'.

I will close this given the purpose of this bug is completed and in the light that the ebuild of python-gammu is now added to portage via a separate pull request.
