Description Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2015-12-23 15:03:15 UTC
The herds have been deprecated by the Council and are being replaced
by projects. For this reason, please decide on the fate of the herd
stated in the summary and update [1] or state the request here.

The common choices are:

1. Map the herd to an existing project (in this case all packages
in the herd will be maintained by the project) -- let us know which
project to use.

2. Create a new project for the herd -- create the wiki page, let us
know the new mail alias name to be created, create the wiki page
and let us know about it.

3. Decide to disband the herd -- just let us know (but keep it for now
in herds.xml!), we'll replace it with individual maintainers when herds
are removed.

As the single member of the herd, I am not sure it is worth converting in a project. There are about 150 packages in it (but mass-updating metadata.xml is easier now with git), split in more or less 3 categories:

- gkrellm and friends: I don't use it at all, and would be better with a specific maintainer
app-admin/gkrellm
media-plugins/gkrellmpc
x11-plugins/gkrellaclock
x11-plugins/gkrellfire
x11-plugins/gkrellflynn
x11-plugins/gkrellkam
x11-plugins/gkrellm-bgchanger

x11-plugins/gkrellsun
x11-plugins/gkrelltop
x11-plugins/gkrellweather
x11-plugins/gkwebmon
x11-plugins/i8krellm

- specific applications: again I do not use them, and most of them have dead upstream. Moving to maintainer-needed or treecleaning would be better
x11-misc/stalonetray (still has active upstream)
x11-misc/trayer
x11-plugins/allin1
x11-misc/xdock

- windowmaker dockapps: I use some of them and maintain the others, I can take them as direct maintainer:

Comment 2 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2016-01-12 12:53:29 UTC
I'm going to send an official mail about this but long story short, we can only update all or none.

So basically:

1. either we drop them all, and those who have no other maintainers land in maintainer-needed,

2. or we put you everywhere ;-).

Any other option requires explicit action before or afterwards. Preferably before, since we'd have to announce new maintainer-needed packages after the conversion.
Comment 3 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2016-01-13 12:19:45 UTC
Sounds good, I will add myself to maintainers for the wm dockapps, so after that it will just be option 1 for this herd :)
Comment 4 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2016-01-13 13:19:41 UTC
Done, remaining ones without explicit maintainers should be for maintainer-needed
