sci-geosciences/qlandkartegt is obsolete and has been replaced by QMapShack (https://packages.gentoo.org/package/sci-geosciences/qmapshack). Please remove it from the portage tree. Reproducible: Always
This would need the cleaning of sci-geosciences/qlandkartegt-garmindev too
I left a !note for hanno a few days ago but he hasn't been online to see it, so bug 582262 should suffice instead.
# Sam Jorna <wraeth@gentoo.org> (24 May 2016) # Deprecated in favour of sci-geosciences/qmapshack. # See bugs 561788 and 582262 # Masked for removal in 30 days. sci-geosciences/qlandkartegt sci-geosciences/qlandkartegt-garmindev
qlandkartegt may be obsolete but the replacement is very far from offering the same functionalities. For example, qlandkartegt offers 84 different online topo maps out of the box, whereas qmapshack offers 4... The usability of qmapshack is also questionable for the moment... I think qlandkartegt should be keep in portage tree for the moment, even if it's not maintained any more.
qmapshack has no proxy support
i completely agree with savi and heiko.fischer@aladin-gmbh.de. qmapshack may offer a similar functionality as qlandkartegt, but it is a (very) different program. it also lacks important features that qlandkartegt offers, most notably the ability to interface directly with some well-established gps-devices (via the garmindev-drivers). see my post in the forums: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1046250.html i keep qlandkartegt and qlandkartegt-garmindev in my overlay but i ask that it be kept inside the "official" portage-tree. (besides, the devs do not offer any reasons WHY they think qlandkartegt may be "deprecated" or should not be developed any more)
