Just a tip - not enough memory? Check dmesg of the OOM killer.

Yes, could be. I'm using an old machine as a compile engine in the background. RAM = 512MB. Do yu have a spec - min RAM?

Perhaps the pkg_setup() should check for minimum ram requirements.

Ran the emerge on a machine with 1GB RAm and it still failed. Logs posted here:

I'm doing my first rebuild in three years, so please excuse if I've made an obvious bungle.

2GB RAM also failed. I used LiveDVD, if it does matter.

You only have 700MB free RAM. Try setting MAKEOPTS="-j1".

I would appreciate to have included a check in the ebuild for the minimum ram which is needed to compile boost - I have 4 GB of it but when compiling with debug cflags it seems to need somewhat near 3 GB with -j3, so that system is near to freeze when using firefox with a few open tabs meanwhile.

I can successfully compile Boost on amd64 system with 512M RAM. It's hard to predict memory requirements for Boost builds due to variety of options, declared through USE flags. Debugging also blows up RAM requirements.

So, i will close this as WONTFIX
