Description Tomasz Figa 2015-07-02 14:32:57 UTC
After updating my system today I found that pulseaudio support in Plasma 5 does not work correctly anymore. Audio and Video settings would show only "alsa" and "pulseaudio" devices and kmix would only show alsa controls.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Audio and Video settings.
2. Open kmix.
Actual Results:
Audio and Video settings screen shows only 2 bogus "alsa" and "pulseaudio" devices. Kmix shows only alsa controls and no playback streams.

Expected Results:
Audio and Video settings screen displays PulseAudio sinks and sources properly.
Kmix shows PulseAudio volume control and playback streams.

It turns out that removing the keyword of phonon-vlc-9999 from Documentation/package.accept_keywords/kde-live.keywords caused a downgrade to phonon-vlc-0.8.2 on my system, which doesn't seem to work correctly with Plasma 5.

Following is the offending commit that removed the keyword:
https://gitweb.gentoo.org/proj/kde.git/commit/?id=61198af8cf5ed048362045082708694c1d6bd38f

My system:
Gentoo ~amd64 default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/plasma/systemd
PulseAudio 6.0
Plasma Live (@kde-next-live set from kde overlay)

Which version of vlc do you have installed?

However, I just noticed that on my notebook media-libs/phonon-vlc-0.8.2 has worked just fine, but I haven't run smart-live-rebuild since Jul 2, so maybe some upstream change in KDE made it require some feature not yet available in last release. I need to recheck this again when I find some time.

There this commit missing from the last release that might be related: http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=phonon-vlc.git&a=commit&h=3d0a13dc0ee0cdd361920c8680b839bc2f934d07

There is a new Applet for PulseAudio in Plasma which should be part of next release. Please test.

OK, I retested today with =phonon-vlc-0.8.2 on my desktop and couldn't reproduce the original bug so I suppose that either some packages needed to be rebuilt or there was simply a regression in upstream KDE preventing non-git phonon-vlc from working, which got fixed later. Marking as resolved.

Tested with =phonon-vlc-9999 and =phonon-vlc-0.8.2, seems to work in both cases, but with 9999 doesn't show playback stream names in Audio Volume Settings.

In general, not very useful yet, doesn't seem to provide keyboard shortcuts for volume control and stream volume control through the tray icon, so I still have to use kmix.
