Otherwise configure does not find needed boost libraries and check fails in this way: checking for library containing zlibVersion... no g++ -o conftest -pthread -pthread -I/usr/include -L/usr/lib conftest.cpp -lz -lrt -lm -lboost_thread-mt -pthread where -lboost_system is missing.

Thanks!
The real reason configure fails here AFAICT is the "-L conftest.cpp" (no path after -L), which is caused by povray's configure blindly setting LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS -L$BOOST_LDPATH" even when BOOST_LDPATH is empty.
(In reply to Alexandre Rostovtsev from comment #8) > blindly setting LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS -L$BOOST_LDPATH" even when BOOST_LDPATH is empty. ... which is not boost's fault at all - it's an error introduced by gentoo's povray-3.7.0.0-boost-1.50.patch :/
I've hopefully fixed the package, please give the revbump a try. commit d0c6bb10aef3c02beb00dc4960d09c8b747d4e52 Author: David Seifert <soap@gentoo.org> Date: Mon Apr 4 00:25:18 2016 +0200 media-gfx/povray: Fix build system, add AX_BOOST_SYSTEM Gentoo-Bug: 550018 * EAPI=6 * Switch back to autoconf-archive macros, scrap boost.m4 * Fix underlinking caused by recent boost versions requiring linking to boost::system
(In reply to David Seifert from comment #10) > I've hopefully fixed the package, please give the revbump a try. With boost-1.60 the 3.7.0.0 version erred out in configure with checking whether to use the ZLIB library... yes checking for library containing zlibVersion... no configure: error: cannot find a suitable ZLIB library The 3.7.0.0-r1 revbump built just fine at least here.
(In reply to David Seifert from comment #10) > I've hopefully fixed the package, please give the revbump a try. Confirming that povray-3.7.0.0-r1 builds successfully (while 3.7.0.0 had failed to configure due to -L$BOOST_LDPATH).
Nice, but we will need to stabilize the newer version before boost-1.57 can be stabilized :/
