ok...i read the portage log saying you've cleand out lots of patches. but looking at actual gentoo patches set it seems me very very little! i think that gentoo-dev-kernels should always include at least supermount patches too. i've manually patched with old supermount set, it compiles but supermount doesn't work. patch should be adapted to new kernel....but this should be the kernel's team work. actually difference between vanilla and gentoo is very thin. supermount is very usefull for desktop usage, and this gave gentoo kernel an addictional value. consider this. i'm very sad for that :(
For the supermount problem, you can try with submount, it doesn't need a kernel patch and should work quite well. It's in the portage tree.
