We noticed up to 20-30% higher build times compared with 2.4.2 The bug is discussed at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libtool/2015-02/index.html and fixed in 2.4.6 We also noticed needless regeneration of autotools files which may be fixed by: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/libtool.git/commit/?id=c6ed4148b0981d39d95b67013716d77c5ac9c420 (fix present in 2.4.5, 2.4.6) All in all 2.4.4 is worse than 2.4.2, hopefully 2.4.6 can be stabilized a bit sooner?
not sure what you're looking for here. we're aware of the issue (as we watch the lists), but i don't think it warrants a fast stabilization. it'll be resolved automatically when we stabilize things in the normal course of things.
While current libtool work it is less than ideal. Enough for us to revert to 2.4.2 I think is bad enough to warrant some action in the near future(few weeks). Is normal stablization is months or weeks away?
(In reply to Joakim Tjernlund from comment #2) i don't see reverting in Gentoo happening. that's rarely done. normal stabilization is 30 days. any time after that is due to people not noticing/requesting, or the update being painful (e.g. 2.2->2.4.). 2.4.4->2.4.6 however should be quite painless. so feel free to ping the bug on Mar 15th and we'll stabilize (assuming no bugs show up). :)

I use both on amd64. They work fine. I notice a speed up 20% (compilation of dev-lang/php) between 2.4.4/2.4.6.
