I think there was a "canonical" HOMEPAGE for packages without one, and as soon as we can mirror the tarball, I see no issue for keeping the package if you want :/
How about trying to ask the author (Andrew Patterson) about the status of the project? (He still seems to be active (see e.g. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=830159)).
Or switch to Debian's https://packages.qa.debian.org/s/spew.html .
