Description Gordon Haverland 2015-01-15 19:02:23 UTC
I have been installing Perl packages, most from CPAN, some from Gentoo where available. The latest hiccup was HTML::Barcode::QRCode, which depends on Text::QRCode, which depends on a C package qrencode-3.4.4, which I had downloaded from the author's site. Using dev-util/pkgconfig, dev-util/pkgconf and dev-util/pkgconfig-openbsd versions didn't work. Modifying the openbsd version to also include /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig worked.

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
Having PKG_CONFIG_PATH defined in the environment of perl -MCPAN -e shell does not allow the building of Text::QRCode to be successful. Having PKG_CONFIG_PATH defined in the environment of perl Makefile.PL produces a different Makefile than if it is not defined. Make test (for Text::QRCode) does not succeed. All 3 versions of pkg-config executable produces /usr/lib64/pkgconfig:/usr/share/pkgconfig. How I read the man page for pkg-config, is that it should also search in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig. It doesn't seem reasonable for site installed packages to install where Gentoo packages install. I don't know why I seen different results when prepending /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig to the list of (2) directories in the executable, compared to defining this extra directory in the environment.

1) This is not a support site.

Try our forums, IRC channels or mailing list for support instead.

2) We don't support anything installed in /usr/local.

This might be the cause of the problem you're seeing, but you installed qrencode there manually, so we can't help you fix it here. Since media-gfx/qrencode-3.4.4 is in the tree since about a month, I suggest you remove all traces of it from /usr/local and try the official ebuild. If you find a problem with that, do file a new bug report.

Did you think I was reporting a bug with qrencode?

I was reporting a bug with dev-util/pkgconfig-openbsd. And that the same bug seems to be present in the two other versions of pkgconfig in Gentoo as well.

Perhaps you should reread the report?
