We started to maintain Gentoo packages for the famous Kolab Groupware and we would appreciate if our layman overlay "kolab" will get listed in the global list of Layman Overlays: Name: Kolab Description: Gentoo ebuild's for Kolab Owner: Daniel Morlock Committers: Daniel Morlock <daniel.morlock@awesome-it.de> HTTP access: https://gitlab.awesome-it.de/overlays/kolab.git Homepage: https://wiki.awesome-it.de/kolab E-mail: info@awesome-it.de Please note that there is already a "kolab" overlay from another maintainer. This overlay is out-dated and no more maintained. Reproducible: Always
I think we shouldn't reuse the name 'kolab'. If someone's got the old repository checked out, layman will not update it to the new repo and things will get messy :). I think it would be better to use a new name and possibly remove the old overlay so that layman tells users it no longer exists. Could you suggest another name then? kolab2? :)
"kolab2" is not good, since this could cause confusion with the old-stable version "Kolab 2". I also don't like to have the version name in the repo since this means name changes whenever the main version increases. In the #gentoo-overlays channel, I've read that some guys are planing some kind of house-keeping e.g. removing overlays with no activity since the last 6 month (or so). If the old "kolab" overlay will be remove, it should not be a problem to name the new one "kolab", right? However, if you decide to keep the old "kolab" overlay, I'd suggest to name the new one "kolab-groupware".
Ok, I've removed the original kolab overlay and added yours in its place as you originally requested. However, we may need to revisit this if users complain :).
