Sorry for the double comment, but from inspection of the ebuild on the online CVS, it looks as if the author needs to enable a couple USE Variables, namely nls. It looks as if the package depends on multiple nls translations that don't exist.

Hi! Can you share the output of "locale" on the shell? I'm trying to start Gambit using # LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8 LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 gambitchess but that doesn't reproduce the error with me. So I need help reproducing the error.

My understanding is that you either a) lack file ~/.config/Gambit/Gambit.ini altogether or b) that it says interface.language = de_DE For a workaround, you could create the file, e.g. by # echo "interface.language = en_US" > ~/.config/Gambit/Gambit.ini That way, Gambit would use the built-in English translation. For a real fix: upstream knows by now and is working on something.
