Description: "Skippy-XD is a version of Skippy that uses the new XDamage, XComposite and XFixes extensions (found in FreeDesktop.org's Xserver project) to provide you with 'live' versions of the windows. [Skippy is already in Portage] Skippy is what is best described as a full-screen task-switcher for X11. It tries to provide an alternative when taskbars or regular task-switchers aren't the most efficient way of switching tasks (like when you have a lot of applications open). When activated (currently only through a hotkey), it will arrange and scale snapshots of all windows on the current desktop and it'll let you pick a window using a mouse or a keyboard. Yes, this is also what expocity and Apple's Expose do..." Skippy XD requires xorg-x11 but not Imlib2, unlike Skippy. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

Were you able to install this with xorg-x11? I just tried it and my xorg-x11 does not come with XComposite, XDamage or XFixes.
Sorry it only works with the experimental Kdrive X server. My bad. http://freedesktop.org/Software/xserver
This should be re-opened. xorg-x11 6.8 comes with the required extensions. I've just tested skippy-xd 0.5.0 under it, and it works perfectly.
Created attachment 42125 [details] skippy-xd-0.5.0-r1.ebuild Corrected description. Fixed copy of rc file (wasn't copying before). Requires xorg-x11-6.8.0 or greater (since skippy-xd requires the Composite, XDamage, XFixes extensions). Now reminds users to enable Composite extension in xorg.conf.
This also, Works For Me with a newly emerged xorg-x11-6.8.0 with Composite extension enabled (hence the new ebuild I added). So I too think this should be re-opened. However, it's *slow*. Takes three to four seconds on my notebook for skippy-xd to draw its mini-windows. (I'm testing on a pretty new laptop, 1.8Ghz Pentium M with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 32MB).

This bug is reopened since xorg now has the required extensions for Skippy-XD .

Created attachment 71476 [details] skippy-xd-0.5.0-r1.ebuild with modular X deps It compiles with modular X when setting the right deps. It doesn't work well though - I don't see the windows' thumbnails - just some blurs. I haven't used it before so I have nothing to compare it to. Maybe someone can comment on that issue.
I have auto-tooled the application, and am going to talk to the author in hopes that he will make a release with it.
Created attachment 72158 [details] skippy-xd-0.5.0.ebuild It only has deps for modular X, however, I dont think that is too big of an issue.

Upstream seems to be dead, throwing it back to maintainer-wanted. The tarball is still there for anyone who wishes to maintain the project.

(this is an automated message based on filtering criteria that matched this bug) Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely manner. There are simply too many new packages. Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =) Because this is a mass message, we are also asking you to be patient with us. We anticipate a large number of requests in a short time. Thanks, On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team, Jeremy. Is there some change I can believe in going to happen here? :)
May be good time to reconsider skippy-xd replacing current skippy package. Original skippy is last released in 2006, and upstream (project site) is unavailable. skippy-xd - at least has both pages available, and github version (referenced from google code) is actual for 2015 year. There's my live ebuild for recent github code. Updated for EAPI 8 and has more use flags for image formats (as makefile seemingly supports).
