Is this a serious issue or not?

attach one of the binaries. i'm not seeing that error on my side.

The interesting is that python-updater complaines about corrupt ELF symbols, but I can't reproduce this, if I apply scanelf directly to the corresponding files:

root@gepard:/root(3)# python-updater

hmm, might be because of long running state. try running:
  bash -x python-updater 2>log

then look at the log command and how it executes scanelf. then try running that command by hand and see if it fails.

root@gepard:/root(1)# bash -x python-updater 2>log

+ get_vdb_variable PYTHON_NEED_REBUILD /var/db/pkg/sys-apps/busybox-1.22.1-r1/environment.bz2

root@gepard:/root(12)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /bin/busybox

root@gepard:/root(15)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /usr/sbin/prelink
scanelf: scanelf_file_sym(): /usr/sbin/prelink: corrupt ELF symbols - aborting

Now I copy the affected files to an other directory on an NFS share:

root@gepard:/root(16)# cp -a /bin/busybox /sbin/sln /usr/bin/wine-preloader /usr/sbin/prelink /home_impala/rose/
root@gepard:/root(17)# cmp /bin/busybox /home_impala/rose/busybox

root@gepard:/root(19)# cmp /usr/bin/wine-preloader /home_impala/rose/wine-preloader
root@gepard:/root(20)# cmp /usr/sbin/prelink /home_impala/rose/prelink

and check again the ELF symbols:

root@gepard:/root(21)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /bin/busybox
scanelf: scanelf_file_sym(): /bin/busybox: corrupt ELF symbols - aborting
root@gepard:/root(22)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /home_impala/rose/busybox
scanelf: scanelf_file_sym(): /home_impala/rose/busybox: corrupt ELF symbols - aborting

root@gepard:/root(24)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /sbin/sln
scanelf: scanelf_file_sym(): /sbin/sln: corrupt ELF symbols - aborting
root@gepard:/root(25)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /home_impala/rose/sln
scanelf: scanelf_file_sym(): /home_impala/rose/sln: corrupt ELF symbols - aborting

Now I check it directly from impala:

root@impala:/root(34)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /home_impala/rose/sln
root@impala:/root(35)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /home_impala/rose/busybox
root@impala:/root(36)#

Now I reemerge scanelf on gepard

root@gepard:/root(30)# type scanelf
scanelf is hashed (/usr/bin/scanelf)

root@gepard:/root(31)# ll /usr/bin/scanelf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 64024 Oct 30 11:01 /usr/bin/scanelf*

root@gepard:/root(32)# qfile -v /usr/bin/scanelf
app-misc/pax-utils-0.9.1 (/usr/bin/scanelf)
...

root@gepard:/root(34)# ll /usr/bin/scanelf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 64024 Nov 4 15:41 /usr/bin/scanelf*

root@gepard:/root(35)# scanelf -qs +Py_Initialize /home_impala/rose/sln
scanelf: scanelf_file_sym(): /home_impala/rose/sln: corrupt ELF symbols - aborting

I still have the error. Should I understand this?
