Gentoo Wireless Networking configuration and startup scripts net-wireless/wireless-config-0.4.6.ebuild * Configure wireless values to the IFACE - including private ioctls if needed * Configure WEP keys and network settings (including DNS servers and gateways) per ESSID * Scan for a list of available ESSIDs connect to them in a preferred order * Basic scanning supported when the wireless driver doesn't support scanning * Run external script per ESSID for LEAP users * Can drop into Ad-Hoc mode when association fails * Can map a MAC address to an ESSID when the Access Point is not broadcasting its ESSID The thread for wireless-config is 32 pages long, so the scripts have been tested extensively: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=122435 Ebuild and scripts made by Roy AKA UberLord. I just wanted to bring this to the attention of the devs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

Confirm, I had this script working first time on a VIA EPIA MII board with a Prism54 pcmcia card. Great stuff.
If nobody else wants this bug.. I do :)
Created attachment 34080 [details] latest version seeing as the author is not keeping this current I thought I would
Nice to see it here :) Not happy with the patching though - maybe someone could think up a better way? Also, could the package be put on some mirrors as I'm moving house in a week or so and there will be some downtime. Roy
Nice ebuild. Should find its way into portage. Maybe it should even be merged into baselayout. :) Thanks Sebastian
TEMPORARY mirror as requested by author: http://dev.gentoo.org/~robbat2/distfiles/wireless-config/ I've just submitted bug #55394 which is support for changing mac addresses and bonding of network devices using the same (pre|post)(up|down) scripts.
Created attachment 34346 [details] Latest version - all conf.d/net vars now fully supported

Why isn't this in portage? It seems to be a much needed item as using wireless with the base gentoo networking scripts is an exercise in frustration.
Jim, Hold tight it's comming soon. baselayout is undergoing sysvinit changes. when those become stabilized the wireless script candidate scripts will be adressed. The upstream author 'UberLord' is already aware of the changes in portage and will be working with Aron Griffis <agriffis & horton@gentoo> and us to add this functionality when it's *time*.

Ruben, my wireless script is now in sys-apps/baselayout>=1.11.0 - which is currently package masked
