Description Jan Seeger 2014-09-30 13:31:35 UTC
It seems all files from dev-tex/mh are already included in the texlive-latexrecommended-2013 package. This leads to a non-working mh package.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install texlive-latex with "extra" useflag set.
2. Download example tex file
3. pdflatex <example file>
Actual Results:
ERROR: Undefined control sequence.

--- HELP ---
TeX encountered an unknown command name. You probably misspelled the
name. If this message occurs when a LaTeX command is being processed,
the command is probably in the wrong place---for example, the error
can be produced by an \item command that's not inside a list-making
environment. The error can also be caused by a missing \documentclass
command.

Expected Results:
No error, correct pdf file.

Example latex file.
Comment 2 Jan Seeger 2014-09-30 13:33:23 UTC
Also, texlive depends on mh when the "extra" use flag is set. Dependencies for imaxima should be changed as well. I'll try and write some new ebuilds for both of those.
Comment 3 Jan Seeger 2014-09-30 13:55:03 UTC
It seems mh has been contained in texlive-latexrecommended since 2011, so it seems mh can be removed from the tree.
Comment 4 eroen 2014-10-02 13:04:58 UTC
Please also see Bug 524114 which describes the same issue in an unrelated test suite.
Comment 5 eroen 2014-10-02 13:15:21 UTC
Sorry, that should be Bug 489384.
Comment 6 Jan Seeger 2014-10-07 09:17:06 UTC
Also, the mh bundle is no longer maintained anyway (see http://www.ctan.org/pkg/mh).
Comment 7 Ulrich Müller gentoo-dev 2015-04-26 21:00:48 UTC
In texlive-latexrecommended-2014, all files from dev-tex/mh are already installed by the "breqn" and "mathtools" modules; in 2013 and earlier they were installed by the "mh" module. In any case, please remove dev-tex/mh from dependencies of app-text/texlive[extra].

The broken dev-tex/mh also causes problems ("LaTeX error") for app-emacs/imaxima.
Comment 8 Ulrich Müller gentoo-dev 2015-04-28 07:35:19 UTC
As discussed with aballier in IRC, the plan is:
1. Remove dependency on dev-tex/mh from app-text/texlive (already done)
2. Add a blocker against dev-tex/mh in dev-texlive/texlive-latexrecommended
3. Last-rite dev-tex/mh

For 2. and 3. we need to wait for app-emacs/imaxima-1.0-r3 to go stable (bug 502978).
Comment 9 Ulrich Müller gentoo-dev 2015-04-28 20:28:03 UTC
# Ulrich Müller <ulm@gentoo.org> (28 Apr 2015)
# Superseded by the newer "breqn" and "mathtools"
# modules in dev-texlive/texlive-latexrecommended.
# mh is no longer maintained upstream. Bug 524114.
# Masked for removal in 30 days.
dev-tex/mh
Comment 10 Ulrich Müller gentoo-dev 2015-06-02 09:27:32 UTC
Package removed.
Comment 11 Julian Ospald 2015-06-24 17:05:11 UTC
This is not how you fix dependencies. You have to do a revbump.

Otherwise you are breaking transition for users, see

! dev-tex/mh
    Reasons: app-text/texlive-2014:0::installed
    Unsuitable candidates:
      * Found no packages for resolvent dev-tex/mh:(unknown)::(install_to_slash)

and anyone else who doesn't use dynamic dependencies.
