Description Fedja Beader 2014-09-02 20:48:19 UTC
It is 2014 and there is a chance debian stable will migrate to iproute2 before Gentoo (if they haven't already). Can you imagine?

Seriously, with iproute being a COHERENT utility slowly replacing all network utilities out there (ifconfig, brctl, vconfig, whatnot), migration to it should begin as soon as possible.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download a new stage3
2. login into the new stage3 system
3. ...
4. find out that $(ip) isn't there!

Excellent. 7 years. Now a 3 year migration window can begin and net-tools could be unmerged on the 10th anniversary of that bug.

I'm going to reopen the linked bug as this needs to be set through system and not through stages.
