I don't know (and didn't find anything) about the policy of which patches go into gentoo-dev-sources. However, I'd like to have swsusp2 integrated, which is not yet in any kernel-sources but looks quite stable. One of the three required patches doesn't apply cleanly if the speakup console patch is applied before, but the conflict can easily be resolved. Additionally a script "suspend.sh" is needed for swsusp2, I think it makes sense to create an own ebuild for it.
Added bug #52019 which contains an ebuild that install the /sbin/hibernate script. Sorry for being impatient, but are you going to integrate these patches? A proper integration of swsusp2 in the Portage tree is the last thing that stops me from finishing the Power Management guide. If no kernel-sources include swsusp2 I will have to look for another way of making Suspend-To-Disk end-user ready.
John, can you give a quick comment whether it's going to be integrated?
Nope, I will not add add swsusp2 to the kernel package, the patch is a nightmare and no kernel developer supports it.
Thanks, although I don't like the answer, it's better than none. Why do you think the patch is a nightmare?
have you read the thing? see the archives of the linux-kernel mailing list for details on the objections to it
