I suspect this might be fixed in >=sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.108 based on what I've read in changelog(s)
Please give it a test
Comment 5 Tobias Klausmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-10-11 16:11:29 UTC
Both .109 and .110 fail in the same way.
Comment 6 Alasdair Kergon 2014-10-11 17:17:50 UTC
Try:

#elif defined BLKSSZGET

(But I'm curious why this behaves differently.)

That indeed fixes it. I suspect the root cause is that BLKSSZGET on alpha expands to something that roundly confuses the compiler (maybe a quoting or bracing issue).
Comment 9 Alasdair Kergon 2014-10-14 11:49:18 UTC
But please check that the code is using the first #if and not the #elif section of code. (E.g. Run the gcc line with -E instead of -c and -o.)

It does:

$ alpha-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc -E -I. -I../include -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DDM_IOCTLS -Wall -Wundef -Wshadow -Wcast-align -Wwrite-strings -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wnested-externs -Winline -Wmissing-noreturn -Wformat-security -Wredundant-decls -Wpointer-arith -Wuninitialized -Wmissing-include-dirs -Wfloat-equal -Wstrict-prototypes -Wold-style-definition -Wmissing-format-attribute -Wjump-misses-init -Wclobbered -Wempty-body -Wignored-qualifiers -Wmissing-parameter-type -Wold-style-declaration -Woverride-init -Wtype-limits -Wsync-nand -Wlogical-op -mieee -pipe -O2 -mcpu=ev67 -fPIC   -I/usr/include/blkid -I/usr/include/uuid    device/dev-io.c > out

$ grep BLKPBSZGET out
   print_log(3, "device/dev-io.c", 151 , -1,"%s%s%s failed: %s", name, *name ? ": " : "", "ioctl BLKPBSZGET", strerror((*__errno_location ())));

$ grep "physical block size is" out
  print_log(7, "device/dev-io.c", 155 , 0x0002,"%s: physical block size is %u bytes", name, dev->phys_block_size);
Comment 11 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2015-11-15 21:04:07 UTC
sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.116 compiles fine here (and is stable). I think this can be closed.
