Same with media-video/libav-11.2.
I was able to compile media-sound/sox-14.4.1 by removing libav from my system. I also added the USE flag -libav to my make.conf file to avoid it in the future. Afterwards, I installed media-video/ffmpeg. This allowed sox to compile properly. Tip: After installing ffmpeg, I had to reinstall a handful of packages that were originally compiled with libav. This time they would use ffmpeg
Thanks Javier, that's more of a workaround. The issue is that sox will not compile against libav, and not compiling it with libav doesn't solve that issue.
Newer version of sox (currently 14.4.2rc2) removes ffmpeg support completely, so putting any effort into supporting newer libav makes no sense. See also here for the latest release candidates: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sox/files/release_candidates/sox/
having this issue as well with libav-11.2. a bit bizarre because the config script tests for both libav and ffmpeg, and correctly detects libav and not ffmpeg, but then fails because ffmpeg isn't installed.
just compiled 14.4.2 after removing all ffmpeg related stuff from the ebuild. resulting binaries do not link neither ffmpeg nor libav.
I switched the system to USE="-libav" - sox compiles with latest ffmpeg.
The final sox 14.4.2 has been released. According to release notes, linking in ffmpeg is deprecated and replaced with ffmpeg/libav via pipe. http://sourceforge.net/p/sox/code/ci/45b161d73ec087a8e003747b1aed07cd33589bca/tree/ChangeLog We can just bump to new version and ignore this problem. But looks like openshot ebuild requires the ffmpeg use flag on sox. This requirement will be impossible to satisfy once we bump to a sox without this use flag. That probably needs to be fixed. Maybe depend on either sox >=14.4.2 or sox[ffmpeg]?
Sox has been updated to 14.4.2. This is no longer a problem for me.
