I have the same problem that used to happen in Archlinux: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1343788#p1343788 https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/37576 the tab loading icon: http://i.imgur.com/lNMPN7i.png (courtesy WorMzy), stays static instead of being animated. This problem does NOT seem to occur with the Mozilla provided binaries. Reproducible: Always
emerge --info required with all bug reports.
Please post your `emerge --info www-client/firefox' output in a comment.

This bug was resolved upstream already and I can not duplicate it even in current ~arch builds.
1. Use the default theme. 2. Open a large website such as Youtube. 3. There are two stages in loading the website. In the first stage, the tab icon is a gray ball turning counterclockwise. In the second stage, the tab icon is a red ball that should turn clockwise. In my case, the red ball is just a still picture. Or you can check chrome://browser/skin/tabbrowser/loading.png Is that ball a still picture or animated? That png file is zipped in /usr/lib/firefox/browser/omni.ja. This seems to related to the upgrade of libpng-1.6 long time ago. So make sure that you are using libpng-1.6.
I can confirm, the problem is there. libpng-1.6.10, firefox 29.0.1.
I have the same issue with the self-compiled firefox, though it doesn't happen with the binary. I have asked in gentoo irc and it seems to affect multiple users. Please set this bug to comfirmed. Here's an upstream bugreport: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1069706

With the latest firefox ebuilds the tab loading icon seems to have vanished completely... Can someone confirm?
Here is my workaround: install stylish and download https://userstyles.org/styles/113878/apng-fix-for-libpng1-6-tab-loading-icon Since libpng-1.6 is marked as stable in portage, I think everybody who uses www-client/firefox will suffer from this problem. Please fix this problem in portage (just patch that icon).
So what about this bug, is it up- or downstream? It still happens with recent ff versions...
(In reply to Philip P. from comment #11) > So what about this bug, is it up- or downstream? It still happens with > recent ff versions... This is specific to your case. I am unable to duplicate it with fx-38.x and 40.x
This bug still exists for me. To check, visit chrome://browser/skin/tabbrowser/loading.png to see if that icon is turning.

As I said earlier it is working fine in latest esr and testing builds. Are you using an old profile still? Please test with a clean profile
I tested on a clean profile but the problem still persists. chrome://browser/skin/tabbrowser/loading.png show a blank page for me. That's strange.
