Lately, rdiff-backup and rdiff-backup-fs got hard masked: # required by rdiff-backup (argument) # /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask: # Patrick Lauer <patrick@gentoo.org> (09 Apr 2014) # Dead upstream, has known dataloss bugs. # Please use something more sane: rsnapshot, backuppc, obnam, ... =app-backup/rdiff-backup-1.3.3 Ok, rdiff-backup-fs seems to be no longer actively developed, but what are these known dataloss bugs? I couldn't find anything about those bugs. Mentioning some reference would have been fine. I'm started using obnam backup, but it's three times slower than rdiff-backup. Reproducible: Always
What are you trying to accomplish here? If you wanted to ask patrick@ a question, then why did you file this bug report? There are many easier ways to communicate.
Sorry for that, I did not intend to cause troubles. My search on the rdiff-backup mailing list on this topic was in vain. I consider my backups important. Typically, when a package gets masked, one can read a bug # in the message, and the bug report explains the considerations. In this case, such a bug # is missing, so I thought I'd open this here and simply ask this question. Never mind.
