When Portage hangs while waiting for a lock; it's not so clear that it is waiting on the lock until you go further inspect this, that lock then turns out to be due to an old process hanging. It would be nice if it would timeout and/or display a message that it is hung; explaining that there might be an old emerge process that is stuck, such that the user knows how to deal with the problem.
