First rebuild with lower optimizations (_always_ do this as a first step).
emerged again both libgnomeprint and gpdf with CFLAGS="-mcpu=i686 -O2" and the problem is still there
emerged gnome 2.4 and the problem was still there emerged gnome 2.6 and the problem is gone could it be a missing dependency?
I don't know, maybe some ABI instability. But that makes it not reproducable & we had no further report.
