Description Francesco Turco 2014-03-16 18:02:58 UTC
When I emerge gnome-extra/gnome-boxes-3.10.2 it shows the following error message:

# emerge gnome-boxes
Calculating dependencies... done!

>>> Verifying ebuild manifests
>>> Running pre-merge checks for gnome-extra/gnome-boxes-3.10.2
 * getfilevar_noexec requires 2 variables, with the second a valid file.
 *    getfilevar_noexec <VARIABLE> <CONFIGFILE>
 * getfilevar_noexec requires 2 variables, with the second a valid file.
 *    getfilevar_noexec <VARIABLE> <CONFIGFILE>
[...]

The asterisks are red, so it's an error, not a warning. Anyway the emerge process continues without any problem, and I can successfully install the package.

# emerge -pv gnome-boxes

This error is coming from linux-info.eclass; reassigning to its maintainers.
Comment 2 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2014-11-28 23:35:02 UTC
As I see it, the only thing linux-info maint can do is improve the error message. The gnome-boxes ebuild is simply using the eclass incorrectly. You are trying to perform kernel checks when no kernel sources is available.

I've fixed the issue for Funtoo with the following snippet:

pkg_pretend() {
    linux-info_get_any_version

    if linux_config_exists; then
        if ! { linux_chkconfig_present KVM_AMD || \
            linux_chkconfig_present KVM_INTEL; }; then
            ewarn "You need KVM support in your kernel to use GNOME Boxes!"
        fi
    fi
}
